Shine Boutique at Leighton Centre, Causeway Bay

A lot has happened back in October for my good friend, Gary Wong, who opened his fourth shop in Hong Kong at the newly renovated Leighton Centre in Causeway Bay and celebrated his company’s 10th anniversary with a party at The Peninsula Hong Kong’s glamorous lounge bar Salon de Ning. And such a bad friend I am to only post these news now. So sorry dude! I hope this feature will make up for it. You know I would love to help you whenever you ask me to… (but what’s with this shot of the shop front? Couldn’t you wait until that black car has passed?) Oh, readers, I hear there’s also a Shine Bazaar for all those off-seasons goodies at the top levels of the Winsor House in Causeway Bay at the moment. Just take a look at the gigantic poster posted on one side of the Winsor House’s carpark entrance. You can’t miss it, you shouldn’t miss it! Go have a browse now.

Taste the Big Apple

Main St. Deli at Langham Hong Kong Hotel Tsim Sha Tsui So it was Sunday and everywhere was jam-packed with families and tourists when my girlfriend and I tried to secure a spot in the afternoon to grab a bite between our shopping trips. The initial plan was to go for high tea at one of those famous hotels so that I can blog about it but advance bookings are no longer available for many of them and we were horrified by the long queues. So thanks to my friend, she recommended the Main St. Deli at the Langham Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui. What a delight?! No queues, practically empty, there was only one or two other tables. Aww finally… some peace and quiet, just the way I like it. I also love the girly decor with hints of lilac and emerald, and those amazing chandeliers that you don’t typically see in any diner. The New York style deli serves all the favourites of the Big Apple such as Reuben sandwiches, pastrami on rye, bagels, hot corned beef and chicken soup with matzoh balls. Just look at the scrumptious Salmon Club sandwich that I tried in the photos below and tell me if it doesn’t make your mouth water!! Chunky, succulent grilled salmon fillet on a triple decker homemade brioche bread. Simply incredible! Simply delicious!

Am I happy for my friend, Gary Wong, who just opened the third Shine Boutique in Hong Kong on July 31. This time at the prestigious address of the Peninsula Hong Kong, the Shine Boutique has officially hit all the prime shopping spots in the city with another one shop in Central’s Wellington Street and one in Causeway Bay’s Paterson Street. I remember clearly when I met Gary some ten years ago, when I was still in University and he was already travelling around the world as the merchandiser for Shine, he told me then that he would retire by the age of 40. Looking at this rate, Boss Wong (as we call him), I think you’ll make it! By now, the Shine empire also has a total of six outlets in Mainland China, with shops in Beijing, Hangzhou, Shunyang and Guangzhou. Don’t forget to save me a seat on your yacht or private jet, Boss Wong. Congrats once again!
