Meet Mr. Marzotto
What an honour it was for me to meet Mr. Matteo Marzotto, chairman of French haute-couture house Vionnet, who was in town to host the Autumn/Winter 2011 preview at Joyce Boutique in Central on July 13. If you are not familiar with his last name, the Marzotto group is the world’s leading Italian textile manufacturer with a history that dates back to 1836. Is not hard to find this gentleman charming, stylish and well-dressed, after all, he was on the Vanity Fair’s 2009 International Best Dressed list. And if you are wondering who was the one that shook things up for Valentino so that now the brand has made it back on our wishlists, Mattoe Marzotto is the man – spearheading the brand as chairman, after his family, the Marzotto group, had acquired the fashion house in 2002. It was then after he has stepped down at Valentino in 2008 that Marzotto (and Gianni Castiglioni) acquired Vionnet with the aim to revive the Parisian label. So look out everyone, Vionnet for sure will be making a splash. Looking at the beautiful clothes on the clothing rail, you can see how Marzotto did what he said, that is, “to relaunch an idea of fashion that is contemporary, without forgetting the outstanding aspects of its history”. So what piece of history is there that we must not forget? Well, little did I know, Madeleine Vionnet, who established her label in 1912, was known as the Queen of the bias cut – the pioneer in introducing the bias cut to the world – famous for her talent in creating pieces that accentuated and draped to the female form and their movements. Today, Vionnet represents the perfect marriage between French haute-couture and ready-to-wear. The pieces are exceptionally well-made with the most luxurious materials and embellishment, the designs are clean, elegant, wearable, as well as functional all at the same time. Now, you’ll know what to look for next time you’re in store, but before that, see the gallery below for the items that I like. I have my eyes on those Giuseppe for Vionnet high heels, the electric blue lace-cut dress and those stunning evening gowns… oh, the list goes on and on. I want to wear them all. But first, I think I’ll wear the totally awesome gold bangle that I received as a press gift. Ahem, everyone, this also means that the best store in the whole wide world has recognised me as blogger. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Joyce, I love you!
(P.S. whoever picked the Maxim’s catering, you did a great job! The food was so so good!!)
