Cake Crave

My wonderful girlfriend, fashion stylist Marie Lebailly, and her man, Lyès Sidhoum, is going to have their first child in July – a baby girl, named Luna Mei. Being one of her closest buddies in Hong Kong, of course it’s up to me to get everyone together and throw her a baby shower. Since the eighth-month pregnant lady could only cope with an afternoon appointment, we decided that an afternoon tea party will be the most wholesome way to celebrate the occasion. Before I had to ask the ladies whether they like the idea or not, all of them were already popping up with names as to which place has the best scones, the best finger sandwiches and the best cakes. Hmm… and I thought only the pregnant ladies won’t mind the extra calories. As the conversation carried on, we concluded to go for Sevva‘s heavenly signature afternoon tea set and their all-so-amazing cakes, especially since some of our friends have not yet tried the Sevva’s Original Caramel Crunch Cake and Pineapple Carrot Cake – how can we let them miss out? But there’s another cake on our minds now that we’re booking Sevva, that’s not on their tea set menu, a cake named Marie-Antoinette’s Crave – a pistachio chiffon cake filled with fresh cream and raspberries fillings, covered by colourful macaroons and edible pearlettes, pictured below. The perfect centerpiece to have for a gathering like this one – the bold pink cotton candy fluff on top of the cake certainly makes an impression, and with it, the entire cake stands as tall as a three-tier cake. The cake itself is not too big, good enough to share between the seven of us, leaving a piece for the mommy-to-be to take home for later. The signature tea set, HK$520 + 10% for 2 persons including tea and coffee, also has the meanest mini-burgers in town: crab cake and short rib – that for sure you’ll want to skip lunch and leave room for. Reservations by email was a jiffy. Oh, don’t forget to book the outdoor terrace on a fine day to take advantage of the beautiful panoramic view overlooking the city skyline.

The Marie-Antoinette’s Crave cake at Sevva – I know the pink cotton candy is, possibly, referring to Marie-Antoinette’s wig or her hairstyles, but for me, this cake is colourful, kind of bold and a little crazy, all in the cutest, most lovable way – just like my friend Marie.
Can’t wait to meet you Luna Mei! XOXO
