Following my Nail It! blog post on Monday this week featuring Nicole by OPI’s ‘The One Less Lonely Girl’ collection that helps Justin Bieber to support the Promise a Pencil foundation, I’m feeling in a charitable spirit, so as I was looking for something similar to write about, these weird looking shoes on Net-a-porter.com caught my eyes. They are Prada Fall/Winter 2011, not Margiela! For real, they are. I’m not kidding! After some researching, the awkwardly looking shoes are part of the Net-a-porter’s Runway To Green project. A project between Vogue, Net-a-porter and a selected group of designers and fashion houses that participated by designing a range of fashion items that went up for sale to raise funds at a charity auction held in March 2011 and will continue to raise funds through exclusive sales on Net-a-porter.com. These labels include YSL, Marni, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Balenciaga, Burberry Prorsum, Thakoon, Osklen, to name a few. Proceeds from the auction and from the exclusive sales online will go to support leading environmental organisations and help raise awareness on sustainable manufacturing practices. At US$1,500 a pair, these Prada shoes are not made for everyday unless you are more on the eccentric side, but looking at the full Fall/Winter 2011 collection designed by Miuccia Prada for her main line, you might just think that this particular style is rather the conservative choice after-all. In any event, should you want to complete the look like the lady pictured in the photo above or go for something a little more ordinary (wearable) in support of the cause, there are plenty of other choices from the Runway To Green project collection online to choose from. If you haven’t shop the philanthropic way before, do it now!
