Beauty Rescue 101: If unfortunately, your nails are stained by poor quality nail varnish and no amount of polish remover can get the stain out, try cutting up open a lemon in half and dipping your fingertips in to the fruit. You might have to do it over a period of time. If that doesn’t work, mix ½ peroxide with ½ water and soak for 10 minutes, repeat if necessary. This is considered a nail bleach in professional salons. If there’s no peroxide to be found, reach for a whitening toothpaste or mouthwash that has peroxide or baking soda in it and slap it on the stains. In this case, you won’t need to dilute it with water. If the results are still not satisfactory, try buffing away the top layer of discolouration with a nail buffer and wait for your nail to grow. In any event, contact a trusted manicurist for advice. Meanwhile, keep your nail cuticles clean and tidy and try to cut away any discolouration on or around the cuticles because that might get into the nail bed and become permanent. Nail polish is something you should never be cheap on, the consequences of using a poor quality product can be horrific and irreversible. Always buy a reputable brand from a trusted licensed retailer, wear a basecoat and wash off your varnish after no longer than three days.
